Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20, 1964) was an American politician, attorney, and the current vice president of United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first vice president to be female and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. history, as also the first African American and first Asian American vice president. She is a part of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. In addition she was the United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. After establishing her career as an Alameda County District Attorney, Harris was recruited to San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Later she became the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003, she was elected district attorney of San Francisco. In 2010 Harris was appointed Attorney General of California. Harris was elected again in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman to serve in Congress , and the only South Asian American American to be elected to the United States Senate. Harris was a senator and was a vocal advocate for reforms to healthcare as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling the possibility of citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented as well as the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. Her most well-known accomplishments are her direct questions to Trump administration officials in Senate hearings.
